[1976]
- A group of young teenagers enroll at a local college to study computer
science, soon they are off scouring Silicon Valley for parts to build there own
computer. After getting kick out of the Intel Corporation offices for being to
young they settle on building an Apple I Computer. This computer exposure
starts Dynamic Software's founder Bernt Wahl thinking about creating graphical
interactive software. Some of his first proposed projects are creating video
games. Creating a driving simulator is one of his first inceptions, inspired by
the fact that he is still to young to get his drivers license.
[1977]
- Dynamic Software's co-founder Peter van Roy builds an Elf computer and
discovers Benoit Mandelbrot's new book Fractals: Form, Chance and
Dimension . These factors inspirer him to write his own little book on
fractals (1977) and sows the seeds for Dynamic Software's second software
program FractaSketch.
[1984]
- Apple introduces Macintosh, the computer's graphic capabilities open up new
possibilities. BMUG starts, the organization brings together people with
similar computer interests. In later years many of these members would help in
the support Dynamic Software projects.
- Peter van Roy starts work on FractaSketch, this program will become the first
program in the Designer Fractal Series.
[1987]
- Bernt Wahl is asked by Ralph Abraham to make a commercial version of some
chaos programs he developed for teaching. These programs form a collection
called Chaos: Mathematics for the 21st Century. This would become Dynamic
Software's first commercial set of programs. The company's name would be
derived from the set of books ' Dynamics I, II & III' which the programs
were designed to accompany.
- Aerial Press places Dynamic Software's first order. The order is for 50
program packages.
- The Dynamics Group starts forming around Santa Cruz, as a 'virtual' place to
allow to people share software ideas and provide a methods for their
distribution.
[1988]
- Bernt Wahl and Peter van Roy meet in the hall ways of the Computer Science
Department at U.C. Berkeley. Their union would lay the ground work for the
formal company's formation.
- Linda Garcia is brought on board to help with the production of a basic book
on fractals to be called The Fractal Explorer.
- FractaSketch first appears on store selves on December 24, fulfilling the
stated goal of shipping before Christmas of that year.
[1989]
- Media Magic starts carrying Dynamic Software's software.
- Michael Larsen is inspired by Peter van Roy's work and starts work on a new
fractal program called MandelMovie, the second program in the Designer Fractal
Series.
- Cory Levenberg becomes the company's first graphic designer.
- Wahl St. Computer and Video Rentals is spun off to help provide equipment for
development projects.
[1990]
- The book The Fractal Explorer is published by Dynamic Press.
- All the top people at Dynamic Software get a NeXT Computer compelling some
Dynamic Software members to start the Berkeley NeXT User Group.
[1991]
- First major FractaSketch up date is completed, templates can now be linked.

interactive fractal exhibit for the Hong Kong Science Museum.

Exploring Fractals on the Macintosh.
[1994]
- Dynamic Software produces fractal section for the Hayden book The Virtual
Playhouse and produces section for it's CD ROM.
- Eric (Doc) Kampman finishes work on Fractus:IFS. The program becomes the
third program in the Designer Fractal Series.
- Bernt Wahl goes to London and meets with cast of the of Arcadia, a Tom
Stoppard play about a young girl that explores the world of fractal geometry.
He also meets with the owners of Strange Attractor's the first store to be
dedicated to selling chaos and fractal items. These events inspire interest in
creating the on-line Virtual Fractal Community Town Hall & Shop.
- A MandelMovie piece "Fractals the Tie-dye of the 90's" is shown at Woodstock
'94.
- Dynamic Software products are used in fashion design. Bernt Wahl, Peter van
Roy, Michael Larsen and John Stokes III appear with Jhane Barnes to introduce
Jhane Barnes Inc.'s new line of fashions based on mathematics.
- Todd Oldham uses a Dynamic Software licensed fractal pattern by "Gregory Sams
" for one of the year's hottest dresses.
- The book, Exploring Fractals on the Macintosh is finally released.
[1995]
- Peter van Roy finishes the long awaited color version of FractaSketch.
- Bernt Wahl is chosen to appear on the Addison-Wesley mathematics laser disk
project to discuss fractal geometry.
- Dynamic Software starts it Virtual Corporation Division "Web Works" to bring
companies, institutions and organizations on-line.
- Dynamic Software starts distribution of it's latest program, Expansions, by
John Stokes III.

- On October 5 NHK television aired a 2-hour special program on Fractals. The series title: "Future Tide"
Episode title: "Fractals will create a new world" demonstrates the software FractaSketch and MandelMovie in conjunction with ideas found in the book Exploring Fractals on the Macintosh. It consists partially of a program produced by the New Moon in UK, "Colours of Infinity", (20 minutes of the program) and the rest is newly
shot material of explanations, interviews, experiments, and computer graphics.

begin production watch for them in 1997.
